recap: day 16 of 60 days to a better body

Tuesday, July 30, 2013

well hello again.  today i am kinda like that annoying chick who wants to call her boyfriend way too many times a day, to let him know she just had a sip of water, she just saw a bird fly by, she just took a tinkle or every other mundane thing that happens throughout the day. what i'm trying to say is, sorry for the multiple blog posts!

i do want to tell you about something though.  that something would be lemons.  the first thing i do right after i roll out of bed, is juice half of a lemon into a mug of hot water.  why? it straight up soothes my soul.  i have a slight anxiety problem.  it was actually much more than slight after the birth of my littlest guy and i was on medication for it for about two months.  i really needed an actual prescription from a dr. to help me manage it at the time.  which is a blog post all in it's own.  anyway, i was feeling much better after the two months on it, and i was able to slowly ease off the medication and could manage my anxiety all on my own.  it didn't fully go away and i honestly don't think it ever will.  i would like to meet a mother that doesn't have anxiety.  i worry constantly about their health and well being.  maybe that's not entirely normal, but that's me and i never claimed to be normal.

back to the point. one of my fave ways to chill out is with warm lemon water.  i started looking into what else it can do for you and was SHOCKED at what i found out.  it has tons of benefits.  check out my top ten favorites.
1. The citric acid in lemons helps kick enzyme function into high gear, which stimulates the liver and aids in detoxification
2. lemons are chalk full of antioxidants, which slow aging by helping repair your skin cells, and also improve cell turnover
3. the lemon is one of the most alkaline foods in all the land. excess acidity in the body causes all kinds of super icky problems
4. Lemons are high in pectin fiber, which helps fight hunger cravings. It also has been shown that people who maintain a more alkaline diet lose weight faster
5. who likes being bloated? i freaking hate it. lemons help you tinkle more, which helps with bloat and cleanses your urinary tract
6. lemons are FULL of vitamin C, which helps your immune system and in turn helps alleviate allergies
7. the high acidic content in lemon will prevent the growth of bacteria on the tongue and gum. don't go crazy with this one though, since i also read it can eat away at your enamel. save it for the time you eat a bunch of onions and garlic and then want to make out with your hubs
8. lemons are packed with electrolytes, which are critical for cells to produce energy, who couldn't use more energy
9. instead of grabbing that warm cup of joe, grab a warm cup of lemon water
10. my fave because this is where it helps me the most. since lemons are high in vitamin C they are crucial for helping the body manage stress. i know after i have my morning cup or two of warm lemon water, i feel like my anxiety level goes down significantly

so there you have it!  if anyone out there tries this, let me know what you think.

  1. I'm definitely going to try this warm lemon water thing! I'm not a coffee or tea drinker and I don't use anything to wake up in the morning, so I have room to add a warm morning beverage to my routine!

Yesterday, I was showing my mom some "never before seen" Harry Potter art, seemingly done by the same illustrator that did the American books. There was an image of Harry Potter and Voldemort inside the golden web in the cemetary at the end of book 4 (not sure if you're familiar with the story). My mom was curious about that because she said she's been using this mediation technique where she invisions her children in a golden ball, completely protected, whenever she's worried about us. I thought that was kind of interesting. Not being a mother myself, I still totally get how pretty much no mom could not have anxiety and stress over the wellbeing of her children!

    1. I bet you love the lemon water! Let me know what you think!

I honestly don't know anything about Harry Potter and my older kids think I am such a geek for being in the dark. They play in the backyard all day, reenacting scenes from the movies. I should really at the very least, watch the movies. Also, you're mom sounds RAD! I looked into meditation at one point in my life but never really followed through with it. I'm sure it would be able to help with some of the anxieties I have.

  2. I was a total nut case after Ava was born! I was extremely paranoid over every little germ/illness/tragedy that I thought she might possibly encounter. I seriously contemplated karate chopping everyone that tried to touch her for the first few months! I am much more relaxed about it now, but I don't remember being that way with the older ones?

I'm enjoying catching up on your blog! I need some motivation to get in shape. Definately going to steal some of your meal plans...

    1. I wasn't as bad with Cooper, that's for sure. I also had a ton of guilt about balancing Cooper and Palmer. It was a crazy time! I'm glad it didn't last too long and now everything is much more balanced! I bet you were the same with the older ones and then forgot. Something happens with our brains that makes us forget how crazy we were when our kids were babies, it's natures way of convincing us to have more kids!

      Love you Sarah!! xoxoxo
