Pure Barre Challenge

My beautiful sister-in-law introduced me to it last year, when she was gearing up to get hitched to my brother.  The Greenwood Village studio had a living social deal, and I decided to go for it.  I was 4 months post baby boy Palmer.  I needed some lift, tone, burn, which happens to be Pure Barre's mantra!

Pure Barre is described like this: Pure Barre is the fastest, most effective way to change the shape of your body. Using small isometric movements at the ballet barre set to motivating music, Pure Barre lifts your seat, tones your thighs, abs and arms and burns fat in record breaking time. Clients see results in just 10 classes, lose inches in weeks and have fun doing it!

My first class was SO HARD!  My muscles were worn out!  They were literally shaking, quivering, begging me stop!  But they were CHANGING, I was working my muscles to fatigue and then stretching them out, which makes for long, lean muscles.  Who wants to have long, lean muscles?  ME ME ME ME!!

I am not really a group fitness type of person.  I really wasn't much of a fitness person at all before Pure Barre, I was good about maintaining my weight but I literally couldn't do a single push up.  I didn't have any muscles.

I was hooked though. Pure Barre is a technique, which is part of what I really love about it.  The first time you go into the class, you aren't going to know what you are doing.  You are going to look around at everyone else in the class and compare yourself to them.  The class is full of people at different levels, which is really comforting.  You will have people who are excellent in their technique, who you can look too as an example.  Then you have people in the middle and people who are just beginning.  It's a blend of all different fitness levels and EVERYONE, even the real pros are working their muscles to the max.

I continued going 4-5 times a week and I have to tell you, that after three months, I was in the absolute best shape of my life.  I looked better than I did when I was 18.  It was AMAZING.  I was so confident and loved just knowing that I was strong.  I also loved that my technique was really getting spot on.  The studio even hosted a night when you could bring your man to the barre.


My husband and brother were awesome troopers and came to the class with us.  It was beyond hilarious watching them try all the moves.  They both said it was the hardest workout they have ever done. 

Summer came and went and Pure Barre announced that they would be doing a challenge.  The challenge was to attend 20 classes in 30 days.  I wanted to conquer this challenge and set out to do it.  My head wasn't totally in it though and I ended up not completing the challenge.  I was so beyond bummed out and disappointed in myself that I didn't achieve the goal I had set out to do. This probably sounds crazy but I totally let it get to my head and I really stopped going to class for about 3 months.  These three months happened to fall right in line with the holiday season!  Oh man!  I gained all that weight back that I had lost and looked like I did before I ever started Pure Barre.  After the new year, I started slowly making my way back into the studio.  


Then at the end of March, Pure Barre Greenwood Village announced another challenge.  This time you could do 20 classes in 30 days or 30 classes in 30 days.  I knew that I really wanted to prove to myself that I could do this.  In the back of my mind, I kept thinking that I wanted to do the 30 in 30.  This would be a challenge to myself but also to my family.  I have to have someone set aside two hours of their day to watch my wonderful kiddos while I go to class.  Or Mark needs to get off work early, or watch them during his lunch break.  Coordinating this aspect of it was actually more difficult than getting to class!  But I DID it!!!  I worked hard and I can honestly say that I am proud of myself.  I got my pure barre mojo back, shaved a few inches off of bod and feel so much stronger!! A HUGE thanks to my amazing and supportive husband for all the help with this.  I couldn't have done it without him.

They had this up in the studio, every class you attended, would equal a star next to your name.  It seems so adolescent but I absolutely loved it and it was so motivating seeing other people's names and all their stars!
