Christmas 2013

Tuesday, January 14, 2014

this post is going to be very picture heavy.  i thought about splitting it into two but i would most likely post part one and then fail at posting part two.  i also really didn't take any pictures on christmas, so this post should be more appropriately titled "christmas season 2013".

we had a great holiday.  i was incredibly stressed out for the month or so leading up to it.  all the gift purchasing, money spending and trying to make sure that the holiday is memorable but not over the top was making my head spin.  i ended up getting everything together and the actual day of christmas was one of my faves ever.
i will start with a lovely breakfast with santa...

Guess who's back.....with a weekly meal plan!

Sunday, January 5, 2014

hi!  it's been a long time.  the holidays sure were fun!  christmas shopping and party planning while party attending leaves little time for anything else.  we definitely indulged over the holidays and i'm excited to get back on track and lose those holidays pounds! tomorrow is "officially" the day that i start to get back to where i want to be.  we have a trip to vegas in may, which makes it way easier to stick to the plan.  we are going to celebrate our good friends birthday, so we are all helping each other stay motivated.  it's fitting, since the first time i got into shape was for a trip to vegas in may and i had my sweet sissy-in-law to help keep me on track.  this time mark and i will work hard to keep each other on track and accountable.  there will be one big difference between this time and last though.  i'm not using pure barre to get there.  i will most likely attend here and there but i am going to mainly focus on cardio (we want to do a half in april) and i am going to use pilates to create the long lean muscles that i want.

i feel like i have been such a pure barre junkie that i need to give an explanation for my switch up! so here it is.  getting to a pure barre class that is 55 minutes long, takes up about 2 1/2 hours of my life.  i have to arrange care for my kiddos, drop them off, get to barre, pick them up and by the time i get back, it's time for lunch and naps.  the guilt that came along with missing out on time with them and having to rely on other people to watch my kiddos, was just making me stressed!  i'm a naturally stressed-out/high-anxiety type of person, so i need to look for things that don't contribute to my natural inability to chill the f out.

the gym that is literally two minutes from house did a huge remodel and started offering tons of classes and the most important thing is that they have a kids club!  so my 2 1/2 hours for a 55 minute class now takes 1 hour and 15 minutes TOPS.  i also felt a little burned out on the barre.  i am slightly crazy and need new challenges or i get bored.  that's why i am married to the worlds most fun/crazy/interesting guy. it's never boring and he keeps me on my toes. the gym offered up two free personal pilates sessions and after the first one i knew this was for me.  i'm excited to show you guys how it stacks up to barre and will be taking before and after pics to track my progress.

i will always be a pure barre junkie at heart and know i will get back there when i can and definitely once my little cuties start their school adventures, which i'm in no hurry for.

diet-wise we are pretty much eliminating carbs, reducing dairy, reducing alcohol (cry, cry) and going lean meat, lots of veggies and good fats.  it's a little paleo but i refuse to jump on that bandwagon.  i still love cheese too much!

there ya have it.  and here is my weekly meal plan.  be sure to try out my hubs chili, it's the best ever!

ohhhhhhh my sweet cooper.  how do i even define what the past four years with you has meant?  it's impossible.  this feels like some sort of a defining year.  i'm not entirely sure why.  you don't need me as much as you used you, which i have a love/hate with.  it's really cool to see the human you are becoming.  it's also really sad to know that this is the last year that i have you to myself.  gosh, i know it is so cliche and i hate even typing it, but i have to say it because it's how i feel.  where did the time go?? i remember giving birth to you like it was yesterday.  holding you in my arms for the very first time.  i became a mother and you became a person, a sister and daughter at the exact same moment.  so special.  there are no words.  we will forever hold that bond of that incredible and special moment.  we became something together and in an incredible way we created each other.  i love you my first born daughter.  thank you for making me a mom and thank you for the most amazing four years of my life.  i appreciate everything about you.

the first time i held you :)

Happy 2nd Birthday Palmer

Monday, November 11, 2013

my son is two. Palmer Douglas Quam is two. i can't believe it.  he was born on veterans day two years ago.  his name is in honor of two veterans who are strong, wild, unique and oh so special to this family.  my grandpa (palmer) fought in WWII.  my father (douglas) was in the vietnam war.  thank you both for your service and thank you to every single soldier who has fought with everything they have for the integrity and safety of this country.  you are ALL HEROES.  and i love you for it. i know that palmer will grow up to make these incredible people he was named after very very proud.

little dude has a lot of the traits of a soldier. he is strong and perseveres and doesn't stand down he loves his people and has a grit to him.  he is definitely the strongest personality of all the kiddos.  he is also the one who gives the best hugs.  a lover and a fighter - reminds me of his dad.

he is at an age that i love and adore.  i loved the "terrible twos" with cooper and i can tell i will feel the same with palmer.  you learn so much about your kids personality at this age and i love it.  yes, they throw fits and freak out but they also formulate sentences - actual sentences you can understand.  you learn so much more about their personalities when they can articulate themselves. so i'm super excited for everything that will happen in this next year.

we adore you Palmer, there are no words for what you bring to this family. you are sweet and sassy all in one incredible package and i wouldn't want it any other way.  you are a boy through and through.  i can't wait to see what you become because i'm certain it will be someone unique, amazing, strong and full of love.

let's take a look at where you started and ended the past year.

yep, we love you and you are the cutest little dude ever.

20. what do you want to be when you grow up?
an architect

#19 had mark and i laughing out loud.  we had parent teacher conferences last night. let's just say eddie doesn't really love writing.  he is a genius (truth) but taking the time to sit and write out a story is something he just isn't down with.  so after a long heart-to-heart with him and some consequences and incentives i did this little interview to lighten the mood and it was obviously still weighing heavy on his mind.  i'm totally confident he will achieve his goal before his next birthday.

if anyone out there has any tips on turning a reluctant creative writer into an enthusiastic one, i would love to hear them.

we love you sweet eddie!  you are the salt of the earth and we couldn't feel anymore lucky that we get you as our kid.
